Summer! That means bonfires, barbecue, swimming, and most importantly baseball. Make that Cardinal Baseball, with everyone in Cardinal Nation coming together to celebrate a great team.

But who makes that popular team stand out against all others? That’s right -- Fredbird.

When our team mascot comes out to greet everyone at Farmington Presbyterian Manor, there is not one fan sitting down. Especially when he makes his big appearance in our community. Our residents – decked out in Cardinal and red shirts -- just light up when that Bird comes strutting down the hallway. Activity Director Carol Winch said this is the seventh year we have welcomed Fredbird for a visit at Presbyterian Manor.

"Every resident is made to feel like he is here just to see them," Carol said.

Fredbird traditionally visits during My Community Week in May, which other communities celebrate as National Nursing Home Week. The staff gets pretty excited, too. They pace the dining room just like ballpark vendors with all the traditional treats, shouting “Peanuts! Popcorn! Ice cold root beer here!”

Fredbird was hatched in April 1979 and has been a beloved fixture at St. Louis Cardinals games ever since. There, you will find him driving his truck, dancing on the dugout, or beaking a few fans' heads. His visit is one of many traditions that our community looks forward to every summer. That Bird never lets any crowd down!
